Alice in Chains Joined Onstage by Layne Staley’s Father During Gig in Canada

Earlier this week Alice in Chains played Canada’s Fox Fest in Burnaby, British Columbia, and invited a very special guest onstage. They were joined by Phil Staley, the father of the band’s late vocalist Layne Staley. A video of his appearance can be seen above, while the band also posted a photo on their Instagram (see below).

After Phil Staley was brought up on stage, Alice in Chains played the song ‘Nutshell’ in honor of Layne, who died in 2002, and former bassist Mike Starr, who passed away in 2011.

The band’s official documentarian and blogger Baldy talked about the show in his latest blog post:

“As far as the show was concerned, the Vancouver fans got this Canadian tour off to a great start. Any time you see a guy with a broken leg crowd surfing to the front while sitting in a wheelchair, well, that’s a good gauge of the level of craziness.

And to top it all off, Layne’s dad Phil came to the show with us today, and he got a great response when Jerry introduced him to the crowd before the band played Nutshell, which was cool. All in all it was just one of those days where everything lined up perfectly.”

Alice in Chains have a few more shows left on this tour. Beginning in August, they’ll embark on the Uproar Festival with Jane’s Addiction, Coheed and Cambria, Circa Survive, Walking Papers, Danko Jones, Middle Class Rut, New Politics and more.
