Carl Coffey

Paper or plastic? Other than bagging groceries at the A&P in town or milking cows on Daddy and Mother’s dairy farm, I’ve only ever worked “on-air” in radio. After high school, I read the obituary report on the Lapeer radio station (yep, same frequency) and was a Mortarman in the 4rth Infantry Division in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Bringing free-form radio back to Detroit in creating and hosting "The Rif Rock Café” and being “Your Afternoon Coffey Break” were high-points of my radio career in the Motor City. I’m glad for the opportunity to entertain and inform listeners every morning on US 103.1, to promote the neighborhood and to be part of the community I grew up in.

I’ve always enjoyed The Who’s music and the artwork/graphic designs used by the band over the years. Now here in 2014, a new element has been added to The Who’s 50th anniversary, it’s a interactive app. The Who Immersive App is full of all sorts of great visuals from the past 50 years from the beginning when they came on the music scene in London as the Detours.

Reflections Of Vietnam On Veteran’s Day

On this Veteran’s Day it reminds me about going off to serve my country. When all my friends were drafted to fight in the Vietnam War and I wasn’t, I visited the local draft board in Lapeer and found out that Beulah Steinberg the head of the draft board had been putting my name to the back of the index card file because she liked listening to me on the radio. I asked her to put my card to the front and I was Vietnam bound

Time To Howl At The Full Beaver Moon

Attention all my fellow Luna-tics. Get outside tonight and take a look up in the sky and shining down on us is the Full Beaver Moon. The story I like about how this full moon got its name comes from the Native American Algonquin tribe. They would at this time of the year when the moon was high in the heavens put out the beaver traps before the ponds would freeze over.
