Carl Coffey

Paper or plastic? Other than bagging groceries at the A&P in town or milking cows on Daddy and Mother’s dairy farm, I’ve only ever worked “on-air” in radio. After high school, I read the obituary report on the Lapeer radio station (yep, same frequency) and was a Mortarman in the 4rth Infantry Division in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Bringing free-form radio back to Detroit in creating and hosting "The Rif Rock Café” and being “Your Afternoon Coffey Break” were high-points of my radio career in the Motor City. I’m glad for the opportunity to entertain and inform listeners every morning on US 103.1, to promote the neighborhood and to be part of the community I grew up in.

Today Is National Paul Bunyan Day

Paul Bunyan is a very popular character here in Michigan with at least a half a dozen statues paying tribute to Paul and Babe, The Blue Ox. The one I'm familiar with is in Oscoda. According to roadarch.com, this Paul Bunyan statue is about 13 feet tall not including the base. The statue was originally paper-mâché, built as part of a J. L. Hudson Department Store float for the Thanksgiving Day parade in Detroit.
