It’s a question that has plagued man since the shredding gods first emerged: Who is the greatest metal guitarist? And now the question can finally be answered.

Our sister site Loudwire is currently in the second round of letting fans determine metal’s most appealing axeman. The tournament, which started with 32 names and is now down to the final 16, is broken into two brackets: the Axe-Slinger Region and the Shredding Region, with the winners facing each other for the title.

One battle in the former pits AC/DC‘s riffmeister Angus Young against Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society and Ozzy Osbourne fame. Other classic rockers still in the tournament are Tony Iommi, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Slash and Kirk Hammett of Metallica.

Voting for the second round ends on July 28 at 11:59EST. Fans can vote once per hour. In addition, all who vote in the polls can enter to win a $100 iTunes gift card. Complete details can be found at Loudwire.
