Box Elder Crushes House in Attica Township, 81-Year Old-Briefly Trapped

A line of thunderstorms that swept through Lapeer County last week brought a massive box elder tree down on the lakefront home of an 81-year-old man and his 82-year old wife in Pantek Park on Lake Pleasant Road. Thomas Malma was on the porch and briefly trapped when the tree came down and his porch roof folded. Frances Malma was inside the house but was not harmed. Both escaped serious injury. Attica Township first responders were joined at the scene by Lapeer County sheriff's deputies.
