Kearsley High School, Armstrong Middle School Locked Down After Twitter Threat

After receiving several reports from area parents, we confirmed with school officials and authorities that Kearsley High School was on lockdown.

Several parents of Kearsley students began taking to Facebook at around 10:30a today with claims that the high school was on lockdown.

While there were reports of the lights being out at the school, multiple police on the scene with search dogs and a potential bomb or gun threat, the only information we could initially confirm was that the school was is in fact on lockdown.

School officials and the Genesee Township Police confirmed the lockdown status at around 11:20a, but declined to give any further official details as to why at that time. The lockdown status was lifted around 11:30a and we received the following official statement from Superintendent Patti Yorks shortly after:

"Earlier this morning the district was alerted by law enforcement of a potential threat made via a Twitter account.  As a result, both Armstrong Middle School and Kearsley High School were placed in “lock-down” mode.  Local law enforcement agencies were contacted, which resulted in an immediate police presence at Kearsley High School.  We can report that those parties involved with the threat have been apprehended by police and our school buildings are secure."

This is the second recent safety threat at a local school, as a gun threat posted through the controversial After School app put Flushing High School on high alert earlier this week.
