Brian Wilson Working on New Album for Old Record Company

Brian Wilson
Capitol Music Group

Brian Wilson is recording his 11th solo album, which will be released through Capitol Music Group, the company that put out the original Beach Boys hits more than 50 years ago. His longtime bandmates Al Jardine and David Marks will join him on the record.

According to a press release, Wilson is currently recording the album at Hollywood’s Ocean Way Studios with a session band that includes studio vets Don Was and Jim Keltner, as well as Vinnie Colaiuta and Tal Wilkenfeld, who are part of Jeff Beck‘s band.

Speaking of the guitar hero, Beck will also be featured on the new album, which has no release date yet. “When I watched Jeff Beck perform ‘Surf’s Up’ to honor me at the MusiCares Person of the Year event in 2005, I knew I had to find a way to work with him,” Wilson said. “He absolutely blew my mind, and we’ve been friends ever since. Jeff’s incredible guitar playing is exactly what I want for my new album and I’m also looking forward to performing live with him soon.”

Wilson posted a photo on Instagram a few weeks ago featuring himself and Beck chilling in the studio. He didn’t waste much time getting back to work after the Beach Boys’ successful 50th-anniversary tour last year. (They also released their 29th album, ‘That’s Why God Made the Radio,’ in 2012.)

He started writing immediately after the tour wrapped and reconnected with the record company that released the Beach Boys’ music (Wilson’s past couple of solo records were on the Walt Disney label). “I was really moved by the fans’ excitement about the Beach Boys’ album and tour last year,” Wilson said. “It charged me up and my head was full of music. I just couldn’t wait to get back into the studio to let it out.”
