Canoe Clinic – Canvassing the Wood and Canvas Canoe is happening at Seven Ponds Nature Center in Dryden this Saturday March 28, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.The clinic instructor, Dave Wermuth, is a life time resident of Lapeer. Dave is a member of The Wooden Canoe Heritage Association and has been a wooden canoe owner since 1997. Dave has restored about 20 canoes, some over 100 years old. He has mentored others in canoe restoration and has also supervised the construction of wooden canoes. This hobby has resulted in the ownership of 10 canoes.

This unique workshop will give participants the opportunity to learn different methods for covering a wood and canvas canoe. They will apply one such practice, the upside-down method, on one of Seven Ponds canoes. They will also delve into various ways to seal the canvas with fillers, primers, and paints. By the end of the clinic, students will have covered and filled a canoe and will have it ready for painting.

The clinic is limited in size so all interested individuals should call the nature center, 810-796-3200, to register. The fee for this class is $20.00 ($18.00 for members of Seven Ponds.) All materials are included; participants just have to bring a lunch.
