On Aug. 22, 1968, Ringo Starr had enough of his bandmates' constant bickering. So he packed up his drumsticks and walked out of the Beatles' chaotic recording sessions for their upcoming double album, 'The Beatles' (better known as 'The White Album'). And he planned to stay away for good.

They'd released a pair of albums in the two years since Jim Morrison died.

On August 28, 1993, Bruce Dickinson gave his last performance with Iron Maiden until he rejoined the band in 1999. The 1993 show was filmed by the BBC at Pinewood Studios in London and broadcast on MTV and pay-per-view in the U.K. Later, it was released as 'Raising Hell' on home video.

One of the Beatles' greatest songs was released as a B-side on Aug. 26, 1968.

Although they wouldn't officially disband until April 1970, the first signs that the four-headed beast known as the Beatles was starting to come apart at the seams took place on Aug. 22, 1968. A little more than six years to the day that he performed his first show with the group, drummer Ringo Starr walked out during the recording sessions for 'The Beatles.'

The final album by the Who's original lineup was a product of its time. Released three years after its predecessor, 'The Who by Numbers' (which indeed sounded like the band on autopilot at times), 1978's 'Who Are You' had a lot to contend with, like punk rock, electronics insurgence and perhaps most importantly, a songwriter who seemed to be growing out of his band.
