50 Years Ago: The Beatles Hit U.S. Airwaves

On Dec. 17, 1963, the U.S. still had no idea what was in store. The Beatles had yet to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show where they seemingly overnight changed the landscape of pop music forever. That wouldn't occur until February 1964. However on a mid-December day in 1963, Carroll James of WWDC in Washington, DC played a Beatles record. He wasn't the first to do so in America, but it was the first time things really caught fire.

40 Years Ago: Bachman-Turner Overdrive Release ‘BTO II’

Nineteen-seventy-three's 'BTO II' really only boasted two stand-out tracks, and neither cracked the Top 10. Still, the songs were enough to free Randy Bachman of his early association with the Guess Who and to establish Bachman-Turner Overdrive as a new presence in rock 'n' roll.

37 Years Ago: Ace Frehley Nearly Electrocuted Onstage at Kiss Concert

Kiss were one of the top arena draws of the '70s, staging some of the most impressive concert spectacles of that era with their over-the-top theatrical performances. But the power of their live production almost cost guitarist Ace Frehley his life at a gig on Dec. 12, 1976, at the Lakeland Civic Center in Florida, when an unforeseen technical glitch caused him to nearly be electrocuted onstage.

21 Years Ago: Bill Wyman Leaves The Rolling Stones

It's hard to believe, but it's been twenty-one years since Bill Wyman walked away from the Rolling Stones. The bassist had reached a point where he wanted to make a change. In a 2008 interview with the U.K. Telegraph he talked about that fateful decision in Dec. 1992, and expressed his frustration with the Stones.

Six Years Ago: Led Zeppelin Reunite for 02 Concert

The past six years have been incredibly fruitful for Led Zeppelin after decades of inactivity. Recently, the hard rock icons have announced a new reissue campaign, received the Kennedy Center Honors, and released the live CD/DVD package, 'Celebration Day,' which features the band's heavily anticipated reunion performance at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert on Dec. 10, 2007. Perhaps it's only a side-effect of this recent Zeppelin whiplash, but it's crazy to think it's been six whole years.

46 Years Ago: Jim Morrison of the Doors Maced and Arrested in New Haven

One of the most mythologized and romanticized figures in rock history, Doors front man Jim Morrison possessed a deep-seated anti-authoritarian streak that repeatedly landed him in trouble. On Dec. 9, 1967, the rebellious rocker was arrested at a Doors gig in New Haven, Conn., earning him the dubious distinction of being, as far as we know, the first rock star ever arrested onstage during a performance.
