Playground Confrontation Ends In Fatality In Clifford

The Lapeer County Prosecutors Office is investigating a fatal stabbing that began as a playground confrontation between children. Deputies went to a home in the 4600 block of Clifford Roads on Saturday, after reports of a 65 year-old man being stabbed. The problem apparently began when the man's grandchildren got into a confrontation with other children at a local park.

Survey Hints At Increased Hiring In The Lapeer Region

In a first-of-it's kind "Regional Wage and Benefit Survey", findings indicate that more than 86% of companies surveyed expect to add new jobs in 2014, and the news was even better for Lapeer, where 91% of respondents anticipate hiring this year. Other good news reflected that more than 93% of firms in the survey did not expect layoffs in 2014.

Paradise Animal Rescue on M-24 south of Burnside Road is looking for donations of wet dog food, wet cat food, scoopable cat litter, catnip mice, cat nail trimmers, paper towel and manila file folders. The rescue is also seeking volunteers for AM and PM chores, fundraising and a volunteer coordinator.

Fewer Schools, Less Students = Less Teachers In Lapeer Layoffs

The Lapeer County School Board of Education approved 38 layoffs for district teachers and para-professionals. The two Lapeer High Schools, East and West combining, and a dropping enrollment caused the LCS to act. The layoff list is comprised of 22 teachers and at least 16 par-professionals.

M-24 Reconstruction Pushes Back Phase Two to 2015

We've been dealing with the M-24 construction and it's detours and delays. Now, it appears that Phase II of the project is going to wait until next year. The project was initially delayed this spring because of the deep frost that kept the ground frozen nearly a month longer than expected, so it doesn't appear that there will be time to get the second phase in this summer.
