John Winston Ono Lennon was born today October 9, 1940 in Liverpool and 16 years later his mother Julia bought him his first guitar. Little did she know that she would be changing the course of rock and roll with her gift to John.
Today in New York City at Central Park’s Strawberry Fields the celebration of John is occurring. Strawberry Fields, is dedicated to John Lennon by the city of New York and named after the Beatles song. Central Park’s Strawberry Fields is right across the street from the Dakota, John and Yoko's Manhattan apartment building, the site of his death where he was gunned down on December 8th, 1980 at the age 40.

One the first tunes John wrote was the song One After 909. According to the book by David Sheff "All We Are Saying", the quote from John...That was something I wrote when I was about seventeen. I lived at 9 Newcastle Road. I was born on the ninth of October, the ninth month. It's just a number that follows me around, but, numerologically, apparently I'm a number six or a three or something, but it's all part of nine.
