Chris Frantz of Talking Heads Looks Back At The Old Days

Some musicians who have been in the business for over 30 years aren’t very comfortable talking about their past and prefer to only look forward. Chris Frantz, drummer for Talking Heads, is not one of them. In a recent interview to promote a new DVD, ‘Chronology,’ Frantz talked about his band’s early days at CBGB.

“It was all exciting for us, but we also sensed also that something historic was happening, or at least would be historic someday,” Frantz told Spinner. “It reminded me of growing up and learning about the Beatles, and I’d read about the Cavern Club and Liverpool and the clubs in Hamburg, the Star Club or whatever, it was like that. It was a place where rock music was raw and vital.”

Such is Frantz’s ease with his band’s legacy that he doesn’t even mind repeatedly being asked about the prospects of a reunion with lead singer David Byrne.

“I would be disappointed if people stopped asking about that,” he said. “I’m not holding my breath but I still have my hopes that maybe someday David will call and say,’You know, I should give Chris and Tina and Jerry a call and do something with them.’ And why not, you know? We make a pretty good team.”
