You've probably noticed a spike in your energy bill this winter. Consumers Energy is offering help to anyone having trouble paying their higher than normal bills.

The crazy cold spells that we've had in Michigan this winter have driven up usage for most customers, which increases the bill. Most people have seen up to a 25% increase on their bill this season.

Consumers recently donated $10 Million to energy assistance programs in Michigan including:

  • Michigan Community Action
  • The Salvation Army
  • The Heat & Warmth Fund (THAW)
  • TrueNorth Community Services
  • Society of St. Vincent DePaul
  • United Way of Jackson County

The easiest way to tap into these resources is to call 211.

There are also plenty of payment programs offered by Consumers that customers can take advantage of by calling 800-477-5050. You can see all of the options Consumers has by clicking here.

The Michigan Department of Health & Human Services also offers assistance programs that you can read about here.

The goal is to make sure that nobody is without heat during this frigid winter. There are reports that another polar vortex is headed for Michigan, and that February is going to be much colder than normal. If you need help, please don't wait to see if you're eligible.
