Lapeer County is under a countywide burn ban until further notice. The ban was issued on Thursday, July 12. Any open burning including burn barrels, campfires and bonfires is prohibited. A message on the Lapeer Fire Department Facebook page reads:
"Due to the extremely dry conditions that exist across the region, a countywide burn ban has been issued for all of Lapeer County. The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.
While some jurisdictions may be allowing campfires in recognized campgrounds, in our response area the burn ban prohibits any open burning, including burn barrels and recreational fires (camp or bon fires). The ban does NOT prohibit the use of propane or charcoal barbeques/grills, however vigilance and continual attendance at the barbeque/grill is recommended.
We recognize that the burn ban may affect your outdoor plans; however the conditions dictate the need for a burn ban at this time. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation."
