It’s a big year for reflecting on David Bowie‘s career. Not only did the ‘Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars‘ get a reissue this year, but now comes word that the song ‘John, I’m Only Dancing’ will get a fresh new look as a vinyl picture disc in hour of its 40th anniversary.

Vintage Vinyl News reports that EMI has announced that the limited edition 7-inch collectible will turn up Sept. 11 in the U.S. and Sept. 3 in the rest of the world.

‘John, I’m Only Dancing’ was originally released on Sept. 1, 1972 through RCA as the follow-up single to ‘Starman.’ However, the song never appeared on one of Bowie’s studio albums. Due to its title and subject matter, the track also failed to secure a U.S. release, but it still remained a live favorite for years.

There were two recordings of the track. The initial one was produced by David and Ken Scott, while a second version was recorded a year later and included more sax and guitar. The second version appears as the AA-side of the anniversary 7-inch.

For the picture disc, the A-side features a shot from Mick Rock’s original promo film. The flick was deemed too suggestive at the time to air on BBC’s Top of the Pops. Meanwhile, the AA-side features an image taken by photographer Sukita at Radio City Music Hall in New York back in 1973.
