Johnny Cash was so captivated by the green beauty of The Emerald Isle he wrote 'Forty Shades of Green' (De Fartaí Séaids of Grín) in 1959 after a vacation in Ireland. He said he was unable to get the memory of the beautiful valley between the Knockmealdown and Galtee Mountains out of his mind. When performed by the Boomtown Rats, the words 'sixty shades of red' were added by Bob Geldof in reference to the Troubles.
