Few other Elton John albums were more successful or more loved than "Madman Across The Water" in 1972.  "Tiny Dancer" and "Levon" continue to be big request songs and seem to have such a timeless quality.  The title, although never a single and certainly not "commercially accessible", still holds up as well, showing ole' Reg and Bernie had some creative touches not only with writing, but studio wizardry  too, with the track's strange string arrangements, moody vibe and minor chords.  I've always thought it was an interesting alternative to the hits.  I hope you do too!
