Bet on your favorite wooden camel decorated by area businesses and organizations for a good cause as they race down the track to the toss of the big fuzzy dice at Family Literacy Center's Camel Races on Friday, May 4th at 7 PM at the Lapeer Center. Doors open at 5:30 PM. The theme for this year's races is Star Wars Day: May The 4th Be With You. Light sabers are optional.
Nine races will be run, door prizes will be awarded and 50/50 prizes will be raffled during this evening of fun and fundraising.Tickets are $25 each and includes dinner, dessert and snacks. BYOB. The Family Literacy Center is a 501c3 organization that was established in 1980 and is based in Lapeer County. The program is designed to empower people and change lives. The center provides one-to-one and small group tutoring for adults in the thumb area of Michigan and helps students improve math and literacy skills, prepare for the GED and enter employment or training programs. Family programs including school and library based tutoring programs, playgroups and hot-topic workshops are offered.
FLC won the Governor’s Service Award for “Outstanding Volunteer Organization” in 2012. FLC depends on volunteers in various capacities to help fulfill their mission and in striving to help people in the community reach their literacy and employment goals.
