Summer concert announcements are starting to trickle in, and this one is sure to please!

MLive is reporting that Ted Nugent, Styx and REO Speedwagon will tour together as The Midwest Rock ‘N Roll Express. The tour kicks off on May 1 in Texas, with a stop in Detroit sometime in June. I will keep you up to date on this, for sure.

In a side note, the Styx show at Soaring Eagle on March 2 is sold out!

1956… Elvis Presley entered the music charts for the first time. Heartbreak Hotel began its climb to the number one spot on the pop listing, reaching the top on April 11, 1956. It stayed at the top for eight weeks.

1965…Filming began for the Beatle’s second movie, Help! in the Bahamas.

1980…A pivotal moment for ice hockey in the United States came on this day. The ‘Miracle on Ice’ U.S. victory over Russia was a dramatic, come-from-behind, 4-3, victory. The U.S. went on to defeat Finland, 4-2, two days later to win the gold medal.

Gordon Lightfoot and Jim Steinman (of Meat Loaf‘s “Bat Out of Hell” fame) also made the cut and will be honored on June 14th at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.

Michael Davis of the highly influential band MC5 died on Friday (Feb. 17) at age 68 following a battle with liver disease. The bassist played on all three of the group’s studio records, including the legendary 1969 album ‘Kick Out the Jams.’

According to the BBC, Davis’s wife Angela revealed the news that her husband passed away over the weekend. He had been a patient at the Enloe Medical Center in Chico, Calif. during his recent health battle.

Davis helped solidify the classic lineup of MC5 (short for “Motor City Five,” after their Detroit homebase and the number of musicians in the band) when he joined in 1965. The group quickly won over live crowds all over the nation with their ignitable blend of garage and psychedelic rock.

Along with vocalist Rob Tyner, guitarists Wayne Kramer and Fred “Sonic” Smith, and drummer Dennis Thompson, Davis recorded three albums with MC5 — ‘Kick Out the Jams,’ 1970′s ‘Back in the USA’ and 1971′s ‘High Time.’

The band’s popularity faded to the point that they broke up in 1972, but over time the influence of their music grew and they are now considered one of the earliest influences of the punk rock movement.

Tyner and Smith both died of heart attacks, in 1991 and 1994 respectively. The remaining members of MC5, including Davis, reunited for various shows and tours starting in 2003. Davis also formed the Music is Revolution Foundation to support musical education in public schools.

His goal for the organization is stated clearly on its website: “This is not about making kids sit through music that means nothing to them. It is about helping them use music as a way to express whatever is in their souls. If we can give this to kids, then we are giving them, and society, a gift that is priceless.”

Near the end of the Chicago Blackhawks’ 6-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, Derek Dorsett of Columbus, a rather smallish NHL player, decided to charge and fight Blackhawk tough guy John Scott, one of the biggest guys in the league.

Everyone loves a good David and Goliath-story, during which the scrappy underdog rallies to smite the giant…This is not one of those stories.

The WWE pay-per-view spectacle known as the Elimination Chamber takes place tonight. The event includes wrestlers fighting inside a 16-ton structure that gives the spectacle its name. During the past few years, the Elimination Chamber match has become a true highlight of the year, as wrestlers put their careers on the line for a chance to become a world champion. Many have entered, but few have left with their bodies intact. Those that have competed include: ‘The Game’ Triple H, ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho, just to name a few.However, not every great wrestler has competed inside the Elimination Chamber. We decided to review wrestlers we think would have been perfectly suited for the brutality that one has to endure to emerge victorious form this match. 10. Terry Funk
Terry Funk is so hardcore he can’t even seem to stay retired. Funk would have been perfect inside such a menacing structure. Not only was Terry Funk calculating, but he’s also just plain crazy! As someone who has competed in some of the most violent matches in wrestling history, Terry Funk would be a natural inside the Elimination Chamber.

9. ‘Psycho’ Sid Vicious
When your wrestling name is ‘Vicious,’ it’s safe to assume you don’t spend your free time sniffing candles at the mall. ‘Psycho’ Sid Vicious was a 6 ft. 9 inch, multiple-time world champion who had a mean streak a mile-long. It’s not hard to imagine what kind of damage he could have inflicted inside the chamber. ‘Psycho’ Sid would have been one powerbomb away from leaving as the new world champion.

8. Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar left the WWE to actually go and fight inside a cage with the UFC, so it only seems fitting that he would have been right at home inside the Elimination Chamber. We’d feel bad for whomever would have happened to be locked inside with him, as Lesnar was one of the most-feared grapplers of his generation. We doubt the other wrestlers would have been safe, even when locked inside one of the four chamber pods.

7. Abdullah The Butcher
Just saying this man’s name out loud is scary enough, imagine being locked inside the Elimination Chamber with him. Abdullah The Butcher is one of the most notorious wrestlers in history, famous for being absolutely brutal to his opponents. ‘The Madman of Sudan’ would do some serious damage to whomever was opposing him. With the chamber itself being a weapon, and with his signature fork, Abdullah would have been a sight to see had he ever stepped foot inside the structure.

6. Sabu
Sabu would fit in perfectly in such a dangerous match at the Elimination Chamber. Why you ask? Well, he once competed in a match where the ring ropes were replaced by barbed wire! It was a match so violent that his opponent, Terry Funk nearly lost his life. So, yeah, let’s just say he’s a little crazy. It’s easy to picture the kind of torture he could inflict on the other wrestlers while locked inside the chamber, so much so that we would feel sorry for anyone in there with the Homicidal, Genocidal, Suicidal, Death-Defying Maniac!

5. Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts
Being confined to a 16 ft.- high steel chamber with a guy who carries snakes with him to every match doesn’t sound like a good way to spend a Sunday night. Jake Roberts would have enjoyed the match almost as much as we would have liked to have seen it. Imagine the look on the faces of the other wrestlers, as Jake untied his bag full of snakes and turned them loose inside the chamber.

4. Mick Foley
Few wrestlers would have enjoyed being inside the Elimination Chamber more than hardcore icon Mick Foley. A guy who seemed to enjoy getting hurt more than he did winning a match, Foley would have been a perfect candidate to be trapped inside the most dangerous match in the WWE, especially if he showed up as his alter ego, Cactus Jack, who was an even more violent and hardcore version of himself. Bang bang!

3. Sting
It would have been great to see the ‘The Icon’ Sting inside the Elimination Chamber. Arguably the greatest wrestler never to compete for the WWE, Sting would have been a great choice, and an odds-on favorite to walk out with a world championship. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we will be seeing the Stinger compete inside the chamber, but it sure is cool to imagine how awesome that would have been.

2. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
If there is anyone capable of electrifying the Elimination Chamber, then that person is ‘The Rock.’ The Great One can put on a show like nobody else, not to mention he is just as talented as he is arrogant. With ‘The Rock’ recently returning to the WWE for a match at last year’s Survivor Series and his much hyped, mega-match with John Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII looming on April 1, maybe our dream of seeing ‘The People’s Champion’ compete in the Elimination Chamber, while not likely, could possibly come true.

1. The Ultimate Warrior
Quite possibly the most intense and over-the-top professional wrestler of all time, the Ultimate Warrior is our top choice to see wrestle inside the Elimination Chamber. Warrior was an absolute beast, both incredibly strong and even harder to understand. He would have destroyed all who opposed him. We don’t doubt that he could have probably tossed someone right through the steel surrounding the structure, if he wanted to do so.

If you’ll be up late Sunday night and have five bucks to spare, you can catch a live Guns N’ Roses show — the band will be streaming their concert from Chicago’s House of Blues starting at midnight ET.

The $5 fee will provide access to the stream from the band’s website, and a portion of the money will go to support the hunger relief organization Feeding America.

If the band’s most recent shows are any indication, you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck — GnR played a 2.5 hour gig in New York on Feb. 10 as part of their current club tour, which is largely seen as a warm-up for the European tour they’ll start in May.

While frontman Axl Rose is the only remaining member from the band’s glory days, the group’s original lineup will reunite when they’re inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Apr. 14. (No word on whether they’ll play together or if they’re just going to tolerate each other long enough to accept the honor.)

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, known for his outrageous stage persona, revealed himself to be — and this is no surprise for his longtime fans — a thoughtful, caring and productive team member on the debut episode of this season’s ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ tonight. 

As usual, the celebrities on the show were divided up by gender. After comedian Adam Carolla suggested some pretty funny names for their team, the men unanimously decided on… “Unanimous.”  Yes, that’s the name, not the start of an Abbott and Costello routine.

‘American Chopper’ star Paul Teutul, Sr. volunteered to be the team leader on this week’s challenge, which simply involved setting up a temporary sandwich shop and trying to sell their wares for outrageous prices.

Even though he wasn’t in charge, Snider made some smart suggestions, such as using ‘Incredible Hulk’ star Lou Ferrigno, Teutul, Sr. and magician Penn Jillette as the outdoor, attention-grabbing team: “You three are giants, and you’re (to Jillette) a carnival barker.”

He quickly became the team’s narrator, explaining each move they made, and keeping the mood light with quips like, “Hey, Lou, you need to do some push-ups?” and “I think we were breaking several local ordinances…I was having a blast!”

Although it looked like they were having trouble matching the women’s team in terms of sales, an extremely generous mystery donor was good for 90% of the $330,000 winning total raised by the men. That means they got to watch as the women voted off (a seemingly grateful to escape) Cheryl Tiegs while sipping on champagne.

However, it looks like next week’s episode is going to be much tougher on Snider, as a preview showed him dressed up in drag at ‘Medieval Times,’ injuring his finger and undergoing surgery! Stay tuned…

Kiss and Queen (featuring Adam Lambert on vocals) will headline separate nights of the 2012 Sonisphere Festival in England this summer. This news seemingly ends weeks of speculation as to whether or not Lambert would be joining Queen in some capacity.

The three night festival kicks off Friday, July 6 at Knebworth Park with a bill topped by a “European exclusive” headlining performance by Kiss, who are preparing to release their 20th studio album ‘Monster’ sometime in 2012.

Queen and their new ‘American Idol’-bred buddy will highlight the festivities the next night (Saturday, July 7), with help from the Darkness and Ghost among others. Faith No More will head up the third and final night on Sunday (July 8). Color all us stateside rock fans extremely jealous!
