Mlive is reporting, during a press conference yesterday, that Flint Police Chief Jim Johnson, put the call out for armed volunteer reserve officers to work alongside the Flint Police Department. Most of the reserve officers will be volunteering their time to work special events within the city, staff Flint Police Department Community Service Centers/Blue Badge Stations, and can volunteer more than the required eight hours every two weeks.

Requirements for becoming a reserve officer for the Flint Police Department are:

  • Resident of Flint
  • At least 21-years-old
  • High School diploma or GED
  • No felony convictions
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical & mental health
  • Able to pass the interview
  • Valid Michigan CPL
  • Complete the 12-week officer's training academy which will be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Flint Police Department (210 E 5th Street, Flint, MI)

The new training academy starts October 26th. Applications for the reserve officer program are available at the patrol desk at the Flint Police Department.
