Flint Mayor Karen Weaver has filed a notice of intent to possibly sue the state of Michigan over the ongoing water crisis.

According to the Detroit News, the filing with the state Court of Claims came on March 24th and suggests Flint may seek monetary damages from the state. The News says the notice of potential legal action is not a lawsuit itself and was signed off on by Weaver and Interim Chief Legal Officer Anthony Chubb.

The move is upsetting some state lawmakers including House Speaker Kevin Cotter who called the move a "very unfortunate and very reckless on the part of the mayor." To date, the Legislature has approved $67 million in funding for Flint. In the next state budget being worked on now, Governor Snyder has asked for an additional $126 million in this fiscal year and another $39 million in the next fiscal year.

The News added the potential legal action points to a growing rift between Mayor Weaver and Governor Snyder who earlier this week described the relationship as challenging.
