A party is about to take place at Gallery 194, and everyone is invited. Opening today (6/17) is “Julia Kay’s Portrait Party”, a five week exhibit showcasing portraits done by artists from all over the world. The exhibit will include an opening reception on June 20th, an iPad workshop on July 18th hosted by Julia Kay herself, and a closing party reception on July 19th. The public is also invited to drop in and create their own portraits throughout the entire exhibit.

A Portrait Party is an event where artists get together and draw each other. Julia Kay’s Portrait Party is an international collaborative project in which hundreds of artists from all over the world have made tens of thousands of portraits of each other. Since the artists live all over the world, it’s not always possible to get together in person. This virtual Portrait Party exists online and was started in 2010 by Julia Kay. Julia is a multi-talented artist who was raised in New York City and now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Gallery 194 is located at the corner of Court and West Nepessing Streets in downtown Lapeer next to the historic PIX Theatre. Gallery 194 is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11a.m. to 6p.m. and admission is always free and open to the public.
