Founding member Gregg Allman was forced to sit out the past couple of shows in the Allman Brothers Band‘s run at the Beacon Theatre in New York City due to bronchitis, and now the four remaining scheduled shows have been postponed indefinitely.

Ticket holders were informed via email from Madison Square Garden Entertainment explaining the situation. The email read in part, “Please be advised that, due to illness, Gregg Allman will be unable to perform on Saturday, March 22. The Allman Brothers Band will perform as scheduled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.” It was initially announced that all remaining shows would go on as scheduled, but a press release sent out Monday, March 24 stated that the shows would instead be postponed:

The Allman Brothers Band announced the postponement of the remaining four Beacon Theatre performances on March 25, March 26, March 28 and March 29 as Gregg Allman recovers from bronchitis. As a result of Mr. Allman’s illness, the Allman Brothers Band is unable to perform at the level to which they aspire.

All ticketholders should retain their tickets, which will be honored for the soon-to-be-announced rescheduled engagements. Those ticket holders desiring refunds may obtain them from the original point of purchase.

According to, the band recruited Kofi Burbridge from the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Rob Barraco of Dark Star Orchestra and the Phil Lesh Quintet, to fill in for the ailing Allman during the weekend shows.

This is the latest bad news for Allman fans. It was announced early in the year that guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks were leaving the band at the end of the year. That news was followed by the announcement that 2014 would mark the end of the Allman Brothers as a touring act.

The Allman Brothers are in the midst of their 45th anniversary celebratory run at the famed Beacon Theatre, which began on March 7th, and runs through the 29th. All 14 shows are sold out. The band has been hosting these multi-night engagements at the Beacon every year since 1989. They will also headline the 10th annual Mountain Jam festival, which will take place June 5-8 at Hunter Mountain, N.Y.
