Having your gun go off accidentally is bad. Shooting yourself is worse. Shooting yourself in the junk? Well, that’s just about the worst day ever.

Earlier this week, a 45-year-old man was working in the Detroit suburb of Birmingham when he adjusted the .40-caliber Glock pistol in his pants (no, that’s not a euphemism) and it discharged (that’s not one either).

“The situation could have been a lot worse” Birmingham Police Deputy Chief Mark Clemence said of the shot. ”You think about it — your femoral artery runs down there. He could have shot it off. It could have been a lot worse.”

A co-worker was apparently able to stop wincing long enough to drive the guy to a nearby hospital. He’s reportedly okay, but may face the further indignity of being charged with “reckless discharge of a firearm” by city prosecutors.

So to recap — your crotch is a terrible place to keep your firearm and the answer to “is that a gun in your pants or are you just happy to see me?” should always be the latter.
