Grand Funk Railroad guitarist, lead singer and songwriter Mark Farner is Pure Michigan all the way. Mark was born in Flint, on September 29,1948. As a kid in school he dreamed about being a football star but then a knee injury put that on the shelf. Mark’s mother planted the musical seed with her son when she rented him a guitar and bought six lessons. Mark took off on the guitar like a wildfire and hasn’t stopped.

His career began with Terry Knight and The Pack and in 1968, Mark joined Don Brewer from the Pack and teamed up with Mel Schacher from Question Mark & The Mysterians and formed Grand Funk Railroad. They would release their first album On Time in the summer of 1969, and go on to record 17 albums with total sales of more than 25 million records.

Here’s Mark with Don and Mel getting down.
