The Genesee County Health Department is reminding Flint residents that cartridges in the water filters distributed to help prevent lead from getting in the drinking water will need to be changed soon.

According to a news release from the GCHD, the Genesee County Community Action Resource Department and Michigan Department of Human Service began distributing the replacement cartridges on Wednesday. GCCARD clients can pick up their cartridges at 601 N. Saginaw St., Suite A from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. MDHS will distribute their cartridges at the same times but at its 125 E. Union St and 4809 Clio Road offices.

Residents will need to know whether their filter is Pur or Brita. Both will have a blinking light warning when the filter needs to be changed.

For more information on cartridge distribution, residents can call 2-1-1 or visit the GCHD website here.
