It was seven years ago that I was given the opportunity to share dinner, and do a live interview with Casey Kasem, the longtime host of the most famous countdown show in America. I was an evening I shall cherish forever.

It was Casey's 75th birthday and his family and friends had gathered in Fenton to celebrate. I was asked to be the Master of Ceremonies for the dinner event and then to interview Casey following dinner. I'll admit I was a little stage-struck standing in his presence. I remember him and being very kind and genuine to speak with.

Casey first approached me at the event and welcomed me. He asked what we would be discussing when we took the stage in front of his family and friends. I showed him my list of questions and he seemed relieved that there wasn't anything he was unprepared for.

When we began the interview, I welcomed the audience and after asking the first question, I sat there in amazement that I was really sitting here talking with Casey Kasem. I felt like I was part of the American Top 40 Countdown. He told stories related to his many years of doing the show and we followed the interview with a special concert at Lake Fenton High School with John Waite performing. It certainly was a night I will never forget, and I send my deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and his fans on his passing. He was truly a legend.
