The story of the Stooges is one that could only be told by someone who was actually there in the middle of things, and nobody fits that description more than frontman Iggy Pop. Iggy will document the history of his influential proto-punk band in a new book called Total Chaos: The Story of the Stooges / As Told by Iggy Pop, and Jack White is publishing through the Third Man Records subsidiary Third Man Books.

Author Jeff Gold and contributor Johan Kugelberg spent two days with Iggy at his home in Miami and, according to a press release, "Pop's candid, bare-all responses left them with the almost unbelievable tale of the band he founded – the alternately tragic and triumphant story of a group who rose from youth, fell prey to drugs, alcohol, and music biz realities, collapsed and nearly 30 years later reformed, recording and touring to great acclaim."

The 300-page book set for release this winter also contains rare and unseen photographs along with contributions from White, Joan Jett and the Smiths' Johnny Marr. Check out the cover art below.
