54 years ago today Eric Clapton got invitation from Keith Relf a college friend and singer of The Yardbirds to join the band and play lead guitar. He would replace Anthony "Top" Topham who had decided to leave the group. Eric would be with The Yardbirds until the spring of 1965 and quit because the band wasn't bluesy enough for him. Eric's replacement was Jeff Beck, who after about a year would move on and the vacancy would be filled by Jimmy Page.
