Jack Bruce Tribute Concert Scheduled for October
The show, titled “Sunshine of Your Love: A Concert Celebrating the Life & Music of Jack Bruce,” is being held Oct. 24 as a fundraiser in support of East Anglia Children’s Hospices, a charity dear to Bruce whose mission statement includes support for families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across the U.K. communities of Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
The lineup includes Ginger Baker, Bruce’s former bandmate in Cream, as well as ex-Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson, Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid, former Roxy Music member Phil Manzanera, Level 42 bassist and singer Mark King and Superheavy vocalist Joss Stone, among others, with more performers still to be announced. Musical director Nitin Sawhney, whose award-winning credits include a lengthy list of albums and film scores, says the show represents a personal triumph for him.
“Jack Bruce was one of my biggest heroes when I was growing up – a consummate musician, composer and all-around rock genius with a killer voice and one of the most creative and versatile musical minds of his generation,” said Sawhney in a statement. “Being asked to musically direct this show celebrating his life and work is a great honor and privilege, and I look forward to working with an amazing lineup of contemporary artists and rock legends.”
The “Sunshine of Your Love” concert is scheduled to be held at the Roundhouse in London, with tickets going on sale to the public today through GigsandTours.
