‘Jersey Boys’ Movie Stuck in Turnaround, Might Not Happen

It was only a few months ago that a ‘Jersey Boys‘ movie based on the hit Broadway musical was in the works through Warner Bros. with Jon Favreau attached to direct. They even set up a website giving fans a chance to audition for a singing role in the film. Now it looks like the project won’t even be ready for its original January 2013 production start. In fact, it might not even happen at all.

Variety reports that Jon Favreau’s movie adaption of the ‘Jersey Boys’ Broadway musical has been put into turnaround by Warner Bros., though the studio had no official statement on the matter. Word is that GK Films member Graham King has been trying to snag as many high-profile producers as he can in order to keep the movie fresh on everyone’s minds. After ‘Jersey Boys’ was sold to Warner Bros., the studio hadn’t thought of it as a high priority and now thinks it doesn’t have the international level of appeal.

Sources also state that a tentative cast was being eyed for all the major roles, proceeding the recent announcement – John Magaro of ‘Not Fade Away,’ Dominic Cooper of ‘Captain America‘ and ‘Mamma Mia!,’ Vincent Piazza of ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ Paul Dano and James Badge Dale.

However, there might still be hope for the film as its currently still being shopped around. Paramount Studios is scheduled to meet with King come Friday to talk about taking over the movie out of turnaround. Also to keep in mind are the musical’s successes — ‘Jersey Boys’ won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Musical and has been performed well over 200 times since its 2005 opening. Not to mention that Favreau’s name associated with this project certainly can’t hurt.
