Lapeer County is going in the wrong direction again. For the second month in a row the unemployment rate increased by five-tenths of a percent, making it the highest jobless rate in all of southeast and mid-Michigan.These past two months have altered what appeared to be a positive trend with jobs. Lapeer County had seen four months of improvement until the most recent two drops.

State unemployment officials also claim a number of people have already exhausted their benefits and are still without work. If those people were included in the unemployment statitistics, the number would be even higher.

January's unemployment figures will be released, probably next week,
