Resident rocker Juliet Simms, who sounds like a young Janis Joplin thanks to her whiskey-soaked, smoky pipes and the fact she pretty much oozes buckets of confidence, ripped through Aersomith‘s ‘Cryin” on tonight’s (April 23) quarterfinal performance episode of ‘The Voice.’ She was the last contestant to perform and she brought the house down.

The singer wore a pair of black angel wings as she sang, which was a nice, edgy touch. She looked like an angel of darkness, which isn’t always a bad thing. It fit her rock ‘n’ roll vibe. We were half expecting actress Alicia Silverstone, who starred in the song’s famous video right before she hit it big with ‘Clueless,’ to show up in the production! (She didn’t. Bummer. We were being fan fiction writers for a hot second.)

Simms’ coach Cee Lo Green said that he chose this song for her to sing because she reminds him of the female version of Steven Tyler. That’s a fair assessment, although we’re pretty sure Tyler didn’t catch the Simms version of the song, since she is on a series that is competing with his ‘American Idol.’

Simms ended the performance with white feathers falling on the stage. It was as though a chicken coop went wild. The wings might have weighed her down a little and prevented her from rocking out with her body, but she more than made up for her decreased mobility with her impassioned ‘Voice.’
