Kansas is offering fans an early taste of their upcoming album, The Prelude Implicit, in a teaser video containing samples from the track listing.

The video, which you can watch above, opens with the band members sitting around a conference table as they get ready for a listening session, then cuts away to snippets of the new songs. As previously reported, The Prelude Implicit marks the first full-length studio effort from Kansas since 2000's Somewhere to Elsewhere — and their first since the departure of singer Steve Walsh, who announced his exit in 2014.

"This is definitely a Kansas album," said guitarist Richard Williams in a press release. "Whether it is a trademark prog epic like ‘The Voyage of Eight Eighteen,’ biting rocker such as ‘Rhythm in the Spirit’ or mindful ballad like ‘The Unsung Heroes,’ there is something on this album for every kind of Kansas fan. After years of pent-up creativity, the entire band is very proud of The Prelude Implicit."

"Recording The Prelude Implicit was an incredible experience, and I couldn’t be happier with the results," added new singer Ronnie Platt. "It is my hope that, knowing the intense listeners that Kansas fans are, the continuity yet diversity of this album will be pleasing to them."

The new record, due Sept. 23, also marks the group's debut release for new label Inside Out Music — a landmark signing for label founder and president Thomas Waber. "Kansas is the biggest and most important prog band to come out of the United States," he enthused. "I grew up listening to them, and their music is part of my DNA. The Prelude Implicit undoubtedly adds to their already impressive musical legacy. I can’t stop listening to it, and we are proud to be releasing the album."

As far as drummer Phil Ehart is concerned, the new album also heralds a rebirth for the group — and one that should lend itself to more music in the near future. "Without a doubt," he promised, "this is a new musical beginning."
