US News & World Report’s annual ranking of the nation’s nearly 22,000 public high schools provides some great news for Lapeer Community Schools.  According to the recently-released report, Lapeer East is ranked among the top high schools in Michigan, earning a silver medal from the publication.

Lapeer East is ranked 44th out of 826 high schools in Michigan. No other high school in Lapeer or Genesee County is ranked in the top 50.

Its national ranking is equally impressive, coming in among the top 1,600 high schools out of nearly 22,000. East also ranked above the state average in college readiness as well as math and science proficiency.

Lapeer Community Schools Superintendent Matt Wandrie credits the diligence of students and staff for the excellent showing.

“This ranking is more than just a number; it represents a tremendous amount of effort on the part of students and staff to cultivate a positive learning environment for all students,” Wandrie said.

The ranking is based on a number of factors including meeting state standards, performance with disadvantaged students and success on college-readiness exams.
