Consumers Energy is warning homeowners about a man who has been posing as an employee of the company in an attempt to gain access to homes.

Debra Dodd from Consumers Energy spoke to Cars 108, and said that the company has had multiple reports in recent months of "different contractors out there ... who may be misrepresenting themselves as Consumers Energy (employees)."

Dodd reminds homeowners to be cautious when approached by anyone representing themselves as a utility worker.

"Don't ever feel pressured into signing any kind of paperwork or contract without having the time to thoroughly review the paperwork. Never give cash to anyone for work that you haven't requested. And never share personal information, like banking information or your social security number with anyone you don't know."

Consumers Energy reminds homeowners that all of their employees carry company Photo IDs. Ask to see it, and if you have any doubts about the legitimacy of an employee, call Consumers at 1-800-477-5050.
