On Tuesday afternoon, Governor Snyder's office announced that new water and filter distribution sites will open in Flint next week.

According to a news release, the new distribution sites will bring the total to nine - one in each ward of the city. Snyder said "adding new water distribution sites will make it easier for people to get clean water and filters closer to where they live within the city."

It was also announced that the fire station distribution centers currently being used, will eventually close to restore normal operations for the firefighters stationed there. Snyder said "the Flint Fire Department deserves a big thank you for all the work it has done to assist with this crisis." Moving forward all of the distribution sites will be staffed by Flint residents hired using state funding.

Besides bottled water and filters, residents will also be able to get testing kits at the new distribution sites which are scheduled to open on April 12th. The new sites are located at:

  • Ward 1 - Genesee County Land Bank, Ross Plaza, 2320 Pierson St.
  • Ward 3 - Greater Holy Temple, 6702 N. Dory Highway
  • Ward 6 - West Court Street Church of God, 2920 W. Court Street
