Weather conditions across Lapeer and Genesee Counties have provided most school kids with another day off.  This time, road conditions made school bus travel on side roads hazardous.  When the kids do wake up and get moving, make sure they dress warmly when they head out.  Take care of those family pets as well.  The Partnership for Animal Welfare has a great (and long) list of tips for cold weather protection. In particular, they say to wipe off snow and ice, because little ice cubes can form in the sensitive spaces between the toes and the pads, and watch out for signs of frostbite on the feet, nose and ears. Skin may appear red, gray or whitish, and should be warmed slowly -- just like with people.
