The Flint Firebirds' new home will be the 'Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center.'

At a press conference Thursday (7/9) at (the former) Perani Arena, Flint Mayor Dayne Walling and IMS Hockey Corporation executives made the big reveal (video below), announcing a 10-year partnership with Dort Federal Credit Union, granting naming rights to the facility.

"This is another great day for Flint and Genesee County," said IMS President Costa Papista. "Dort Federal Credit Union understands the vision and the magnitude of this community project. They have stepped up to ensure a long-term success story for Flint, Genesee County and the region. We are thrilled to have the 10-year partnership with Dort Federal Credit Union and their 70,000 plus members."

The arena opened in 1969, and will continue to host numerous entertainment and community events. The Flint Firebirds, part of the Ontario Hockey League, are set to open their first season in their new home in September.
