A North Branch Township couple wanted to open a small, unique business that would offer cremation to pets from a building behind their house, but the idea was not so popular with the neighborhood, or the township board.David and Julie Richardson failed to secure the permit for the business because the township board turned down the special permit that would have been required because the property was zoned residential.

Neighbors had expressed fears that the smell from the crematorium would affect their homes.
