Peyton Manning tied an NFL record by throwing seven touchdown passes in a game, and the Denver Broncos beat the Baltimore Ravens, 49-27, in the opener of the 2013 NFL season in Denver on Thursday night.

Trailing 17-14 at halftime to the defending Super Bowl champions, Manning and the Broncos (1-0) were aggressive in the second half, scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter and adding two more in the final period. Denver also capitalized on a blocked punt and several Baltimore (0-1) turnovers.

Manning connected on 27 of 42 attempts for 462 yards. It was the first time an NFL player threw for seven touchdowns in a game since Joe Kapp of the Vikings did it in 1969.

Demaryius Thomas caught 11 passes for 161 yards and two scores. Free agent acquisition Wes Welker and Julius Thomas each had two touchdown receptions for the Broncos.

Ravens' quarterback Joe Flacco completed 34 of his 62 passes for 362 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Baltimore running game was neutralized in the second half when Denver began to pull away.

The teams waited out a 33-minute storm-related delay at the start of the game before beginning the season.
