Since its release in 1973, Pink Floyd‘s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ has become one of the best-selling records of all time. The album is certified for sales of more than 15 million in the United States alone, and stayed on Billboard’s Top 200 for 741 weeks. It celebrates its 40th anniversary this month.

To mark the occasion, the group’s official website will be streaming ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ in its entirety starting this coming Saturday night (March 23) at 7:01PM ET.  Fans are being encouraged to send messages and photos related to the album via Twitter using the hashtag #DarkSide40. The tweets will automatically cause a side of a specially-designed moon on the group’s website to darken.

From March 20-24, visitors to the Pink Floyd website will be greeted with new variations on the legendary ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ album design, originally created by Storm Thorgerson. The group intend to combine the designs to form a digital poster that fans will be able to download.

While the mood leading up to this coming weekend will be celebratory for many Floyd fans, we wouldn’t advise anyone to hold their breath in hopes that surviving Pink Floyd members Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason will be reuniting anytime soon. Last week we reported that, in an interview with Britain’s Sun newspaper, Waters said he has no interest in performing with Gilmour and Mason again.

“It was over in 1985, and it’s still over,” Waters told the Sun. “I left Pink Floyd for very good reasons, and it was the right and proper thing to do.”
