It's a sad day for a popular hang out in Oscoda County.

Early this morning (October 1), Oscoda County's popular bar, Ma Deeter's Bar and Restaurant has burned down.

A popular spot to get a bite to eat and a friendly drink on your way 'up north', Ma Deeter's has been operating since 1921. The original building was torn down and rebuilt on November 3, 1941, and was the “largest commercial log cabin building East of the Mississippi.”

Oscoda County Fire Chief says that the fire started in the kitchen at about 2:30 a.m. The blaze took about 40 firefighters to extinguish. No one got hurt in the early morning flames and the popular bar is a total loss.
