With the promotion that began running eleven years ago this years Record Store Day was the largest and most successful so far. Happening on April 21st and ending the week long celebration of vinyl, Billboard reports that 733,000 vinyl albums were sold during that time period. Of that number an impressive 580,000 vinyl albums were sold at independent retailers (Ma & Pa type stores).

On top of the list of exclusive album titles was the red vinyl release of Bruce Springsteen’s Greatest Hits album at #2 David Bowie’s Welcome to the Blackout (Live London ’78) followed by Neil Young’s Roxy: Tonight's the Night Live and next was Rage Against the Machine’s Live at the Democratic National Convention 2000 and Bob Dylan & The Grateful Dead’s Dylan & The Dead.
With Record Store Day singles the most popular was Led Zeppelin's Friends/Rock and Roll (double-sided 7-inch single) next in line was David Bowie’s Let’s Dance (Full Length Demo) on 12-inch vinyl.
