Around this time 45 years ago the Monterey International Pop Festival took place and ended up being the first big rock festival, providing inspiration for the others that followed, including the Woodstock Festival, two years later.  At only around 60,000 attendees, it paled next to Woodstock's massive 500,000 mess, but still, it went down in history as the first, introducing the world to Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Janis Joplin and others.  Fellow performers, The Animals even wrote a song about it that became quite a big hit for them, Monterey.  Let's groove on that for today's Vinyl Vault at 5:20pm.  Out of town?  Listen live on-line.
