Richard Berry, the man who wrote one of the most famous party songs would have been 90 years old today (he died in 1997). In 1957, Richard recorded "Louie Louie" and it didn't catch on. He sold the rights to the tune two years later for $750.
In 1963, The Kingsmen record an unintelligible rendition of the song and because of the inferior production the rumor started that the lyrics were obscene. This would help the song become a top 10 hit.
