Guitarist Mick Taylor makes his performance debut with the Rolling Stones in Rome on this day in 1969. He replaced Brian Jones who later drowns on July 3. He is widely acknowledged as the most technically accomplished musician ever to perform as one of the Rolling Stones. His time with the band would be short-lived. Mick would quit the group. Keith Richards had this to say about the situation "In December 1974, we went to Munich to record Black and Blue. That was when Mick Taylor dropped his bombshell on us, telling us he was leaving the band and that he had other furrows to plow, which none of us could believe".

Now its 30 years later and Mick Taylor is backing performing with The Stones on tour, tonight he’ll be on stage with the guys in Madrid, Spain.
