Sammy Hagar Not Convinced About Van Halen Comeback

Sammy Hagar is rather skeptical about a new Van Halen album with David Lee Roth.  He points out to Rollingstone.com that the group hasn't produced a new CD since the 1990s, and admits he's not sure why they've been dormant for so long. Sammy says he'd "love to see them make a great record" and believes they "owe the fans that."  He calls Van Halen followers "some of the most loyal fans in rock" and accuses the group of treating them "so, so bad these last 20 years."  Hagar is also cautioning fans that what's being called a new album from Van Halen might not be all that fresh after all.  He says he's "heard this record is old outtakes from the old days" before he joined the group.  Sammy adds that former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony is curious if his background vocals will end up on the disc.

Word surfaced earlier this week that Van Halen had signed a new deal with Interscope Records.  The band is reportedly planning to put out a new album with their original frontman.  If a new disc surfaces, it would be the first full set of previously unreleased material since 1998's "Van Halen 3," and their first complete project with Roth since 1984.
