When guitarist Rudolf Schenker formed the Scorpions in 1965, British Invasion rock ’n’ roll bands were riding a commercial high and leaving their mark on fans and aspiring musicians around the world.

They included Schenker and his fellow German band mates, who honor such British rock royalty as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Kinks on ‘Comeblack,’ the forthcoming Scorpions studio album.

Due Jan. 24 from Legacy Recordings, ‘Comeblack’ features covers of ‘Across the Universe’ (which the Beatles included on 1970′s ‘Let It Be’), ‘Ruby Tuesday’ (a hit in 1967 for the Stones) and ‘All Day and All of the Night’ (a signature Kinks tune from 1965). The album also includes new performances of such classic Scorpions songs as ‘No One Like You,’ ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane’ and ‘Wind of Change.’

The band, who are planning on retiring very soon, describes ‘Comeblack’ as “an encore for our die-hard fans, to thank them for all the support for so many years.”

Also due Jan. 24 from Legacy is the Blu-ray disc ‘Get Your Sting and Blackout — Live in 3D,’ which was recorded on April 15, 2011, in Germany during the Scorpions’ ongoing farewell tour. (Dates continue into the fall, with the band expected to wrap things up on Oct. 13 at the Olympiahalle festival in Munich.)
